Over the last seven weeks -- and continuing for a few more -- I have been immersed in a long-term journalism project with a professor at the University of Oregon. In connection with some of my previous work in forming a podcast series, I am forming a sort of journalistic thesis in the form a weekly post on Medium.com, a business-focused blog. The publication can be found here.
The intention of the long-term journalism project is to put the Journalist's Code of Conduct into action to give a Voice to the Voiceless and to explore how that can be accomplished through the use of podcasts. Over the past few weeks, I have analyzed three separate organizations that facilitate the telling of people's stories, with a focus on the personal interview. What does StoryCorps, The Story Trek, and Scene On Radio have in common? What can we learn from their examples? What are they doing right? And what key takeaways can I put into my own project? Please consider following along with the weekly updates. They are generally a 5 minute read or less, and explore what it means to be a journalist and the importance of every person's story. The most recent post has a fantastic summary of what's been happening if you don't have time to start from the beginning. Enjoy!
